University Falls

University Falls We intended to go hiking along the Rubicon, but the Wentworth Springs Road was pretty icy past the turnoff for University Falls, so we turned around and hiked down to the falls instead. They are beautiful right now with incredible ice formations and great lighting for those scenic photographers out there. Mostly, we just enjoyed the solitude and remoteness that one rarely finds there during the summer. In the summer, University Falls is a great “secret spot” that locals use to sunbathe and slide down the slick rocks into deep pools. The hike is about 5.5 miles round trip, but it’s pretty moderate andTessa at University Falls has stunning views of the Sierra Nevada. From Coloma, take Marshall Road to Garden Valley. Turn Left on 193. Go through Georgetown (it turns into Main Street) Stay going straight and the road turns into Wentworth Springs. About 12 miles up the road there’s a yellow fence across a forest service road. Park and follow the road and signs.
