Joy of Groomers

In my opinion, groomers are completely underrated. Everyone hypes up powder, and yes, it is an incredible, surf-like experience. And it’s a better workout. And there is absolutely nothing to compare to untracked powder. However, speeding down groomed intermediate runs is almost just as fun. Brooke and I have developed a few favorites at Sierra. Powderhorn and Lower Main top the list. They are runs that are consistently groomed a week or two after a storm and are always so much fun. The joy of blue square runs is that you can go fast and out of control without being scared, ski backwards, play tag, go off small jumps, play “follow the leader” and just have an all-around nice time skiing. Some of our friends claim it isn’t worthwhile to go skiing a week after it’s stormed when all there is to ski are icy moguls and groomed blue runs, but I disagree wholeheartedly.
